The internet was made for this level of excellence.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the power of reblogging and the increasing influence and prominence of Tumblr, Pintrest etc. How many new ideas are actually being formed and how much of what we have access to is merely the reblogging, tagging and sharing of culture. This shift in itself is worth noting as the most shared and favourited information can rise to the top, providing a means of curation for the web.

Drake (obviously an expert on social commentary) recently posted his fears for the Tumblr generation (on his Tumblr nonetheless). His (abridged) thoughts were:

“I’m really scared for my generation, you know. The thing that scares me most is Tumblr. I hate what Tumblr has become. Because it like, it reminds me of those clique-y girls in high school… They don’t actually embody any of those things. They just emulate. It’s scary man, simulation life that we’re living. It scares me”.

I disagree, sure most people closely manage their online persona to build their own version of a personal brand, but I think the shift in the way that we share information is so much more interesting.

I don’t believe people are becoming less creative, or even creating less, we are just finding different platforms to share this creativity. And for those that have a Tumblr just to reblog and repost, isn’t that in essence a unique form of creatvity?

The story behind the world’s dumbest tattoo… is a pretty interesting article by Vice actually, they managed at least a little bit of info about the man behind the tattoo who is obviously struggling with his sudden fame.

Second post mentioning Drake this week - I actually didn’t know who he was until I read the tattoo piece in Vice.
